Other than the SS and the M5/M6 (in the U.S.) are there any other new cars that can be had in this combination? Rumors are that the next M5 will not be offered with a manual, and that the SS is not long for this world... It will be a sad day when no more cars that checks all these boxes are being built.

Hardest part about this is the manual part. There are quite a fair amount of RWD V8 Sedans out there, Hyundai Gensis, K900, S-Class, E-Class, Dodge Charger, The Lexus GS F, Lexus IS F, C63 AMG, Lexus LS, 7 Series, off the top of my head.

As far as V8 options go, it’s doubtful that we’ll see any new ones coming out once these offerings are gone.

Add in turbo V/I6 options, and there are a few more, namely the BMW 3/4 of regular and M varieties, and the new ATS-V. Also Ram HD trucks. (heh).

Blame the rash of new turbo options on emissions / efficiency requirements, and how much easier it is to tune them to beat EPA tests. Plus dealers don’t stock manuals, and nobody really buys them anyways. Try going to your local Caddy dealer and asking about a regular ATS with a manual. You’ll be shunned!

Yup. I just hope that the (admittedly limited) demand for cars that can be had with all of these is enough to keep at least a couple manufacturers selling a car like this.

Sadly we are in an age where automatic transmissions put out more speed than manual ones, compared to previous years. I don’t hate automatics, but it should be an option in enthusiast models, especially in cars targeted towards younger, sportier buyers, like the IS F

Agreed, If I can only have one I’ll keep my E90. However, I’ve had the pleasure of driving a handfull of E39 M5’s (a good friend just bought his second one), and it is hands down the most fun med/lg sized car that I have ever driven.

Never mind the V8, you can’t even get a 6-cylinder RWD sedan outside of BMW. And even in the land of FWD 4-bangers there aren’t that many options, particularly for midsize sedans — Accord? Can’t think of any others ...

300 lbs heavier, 8” longer. Wheelbase is only 2.5” longer on the 5. I believe the 5 has a good bit more torque.

Yeah - little more rear seat room, considerable more trunk space (and overhang), and more grunt (less high-strung than the S65). Probably the better car for around town, but ours will shine brighter at the track or on the back roads. I do like how relatively similar they are, though.

Yea and I will say the 5 feels a lot bigger/heavier, which is probably why its so fun to drive (it’s big but moves like it’s little. The E90 is tighter and just a better all around car IMO.
